I needed a new laptop after my HP was pooping the bed. I've had it for about 3 days of heavy use and I will give you the positives and negatives, and overall impressions.
Positive: Big screen, big keyboard, fast (after cleanup, which I will get to in a bit), good battery life, fan runs very quietly. Negative: Mouse pad is glitchy at times, bloatware, plastic shell and finish stain and feel uncomfortable at times.
Overall this laptop exceeded my expectations. I have the i3, so I was worried there would be a significant performance drop from the higher core models. I have several windows and programs running simultaneously, and the computer is still lightning fast. You will like this laptop if you want a large laptop at a low price point. Being a grad student and running a business I needed a laptop with a big screen so I can "snap" all my windows and view them all at once. This screen is big enough to use microsofts snap feature effectively. This is a good laptop if you need to be productive, and I recommend it for a student or business man. The laptops materials feel cheap, and stain very easily, but I don't care about that as much as others might.
There are many comments about the bloatware, superfish in particular, and I will talk about my experiences. This computer comes with A TON of bloatware, which can take up precious space, and slow down the computers performance. The very first thing I did was download free malwarebytes, and it instantly found 79 issues. Keep in mind this was without any internet surfing, or importing any other software or programs other than malwarebytes. Online articles recommend using a program called PC decrapifier to clean out the PC but I would advise against this. Unless you really know what your doing, taking this programs advice can cause serious performance effects on the pc, because you could uninstall drivers or software that could actually benefit the computer. PC decrapifier also does a poor job of actually removing the software. Your best bet is to go into control pannel and manually uninstall programs you know are bloatware. After I ran malwarebytes and did a manual uninstall of all the bloatware, the computer was lightning fast and clean as a whistle.
Understand that with lower end computer models the margins for companies are incredibly low, which are why some companies are exiting the laptop market. Companies like lenovo pack their computer with bloatware because the developers of these programs pay lenovo big money to be featured on the website at launch. So while this can hurt computer performance, it's done to make the price point lower to the end user, so you would be paying a lot more for this machine without it. The good news is, all of it can be taken off. The entire process takes about an hour and a half, and make sure you malwarebytes is the first thing you run before doing anything else.
Out of the box, the laptop just needs some TLC, but after that it's a great machine for it's price point. Keep in mind if you want to run taxing software such as photoshop you may want to upgrade to the i5 model or higher. As i stated before,

This is a pretty fast computer and I got it for a decent price.Overall I am happy with it.Why give it 2 stars?Because it ships with over 100 pieces of spamware, adware, and spyware pre-installed on it.It took me nearly 5 hours to clean it up enough to get the computer to run fast.The cleanup required installation of additional software and was difficult enough that I would not expect an average user to be able to do it.Much of the cleanup was intentionally obfuscated and designed to trick you into downloading additional spyware.
Be warned.If you use this computer out of the box without cleaning it up you are giving away your personal info to God knows who in God knows where.It is a shame that an otherwise decent computer is crippled out of the box in this fashion.If you are not familiar with removing extensive and invasive software then I would not purchase this.I certainly will not purchase another Lenovo product after this.
If expectations are kept in check, the Lenovo G50 is a good budget laptop PC after making a few changes. First thing's first: if you have another PC running Windows 8.1 (Or Windows 10), Microsoft offers a free USB/DVD install creator tool from their website. Make yourself an install disc or a USB flash drive, erase the laptop's hard drive (or install an SSD drive like I did for an extra fast & snappy computer) and start with a fresh copy of Windows without all that Lenovo crap-ware and spyware. The only caveat with this method is that you will need to download some drivers from Lenovo's support site after a fresh Windows install such as the wireless network adapter, trackpad, SD card reader etc.
Since I immediately installed an SSD drive before even the first start-up, I cannot comment about how well the computer works "out of the box", but I will say it's been very fast for me (again, I do have an SSD installed which makes a tremendous difference in responsiveness of the machine). Boot times average 5-7 seconds from completely off to the Windows login screen and most programs launch almost instantly.
Compared to my aging 17" MacBook Pro which was an amazing machine six years ago, the Lenovo G50 by comparison feels flimsy and cheap. I suppose you do get what you pay for in the end. I also can't imagine this Lenovo laptop lasting over six years -but hey, I only had to pay a fraction of the price for this Lenovo compared to my MacBook Pro.
The Lenovo G50's trackpad feel and usage leaves a bit to be desired. I don't care much for the somewhat "gritty" texture of the trackpad surface and it can be jittery at times when trying to move your finger precisely. This isn't normally a problem, but if you're used to a good trackpad you might be disappointed. My biggest complaints are screen quality and battery life. Viewing angles of the screen are subpar, the color gamut is pretty poor and the resolution is not all that good. As a laptop, it's usable for Internet or text and document use, but I won't be using it for Lightroom or Photoshop anytime soon. Battery life is a bit underwhelming as well. It has enough juice to last a little over three hours on the go, but if you've got a lot of work to do you'd better bring your charger.
Graphics on this Lenovo G50 aren't too shabby for a budget laptop. It uses the integrated Intel HD4400 graphics which I'd say is about on-par with my 2009 MacBook Pro's NVIDIA 9600GT discrete graphics card. Playing Minecraft, I've been averaging around 45-55 FPS with 'fancy settings' enabled. In fact, it actually performs slightly better than my old MacBook did.
For you Linux geeks out there who might be concerned whether or not the Lenovo G50 is a good option need not worry. Ubuntu 15.04 operates perfectly on this machine as-is without any modifications necessary. Wi-Fi, Trackpad, sleep/resume all worked fine. I have Ubuntu setup to dual boot alongside Windows for the best of both worlds. While I cannot guarantee every Linux distro will perform with ease on the G50, it's a good bet you won't have too many problems with the distro flavor you decide to use.
Overall I'd say the G50 is decent if you're simply looking for a full-sized, inexpensive laptop. Nothing about this Lenovo G50 is going to blow you away as being excellent, however, it doesn't need to at such a cheap price. This computer was made for the average user in mind. Somebody who's shopping with low cost in mind. It serves my purpose as an Ok secondary computer since I have a powerful desktop PC with a fantastic display as my main computer. If you are looking to buy a laptop as your full-time use PC then I would recommend stepping it up to something better to avoid some of the annoyances this laptop has.

I've had this computer for about two months now and I can honestly say it went way above my expectations. It runs games like Dragon Age: Inquisition beautifully (in High/Ultra mode) and Sims 4, which used to run poorly or not at all on my Gateway laptop I had before this one. I also have a heavily modded Minecraft on it, and it still runs it extremely well. The battery life is also very good, usually lasting a few hours off the charger, and it has given me a warning before that I was overcharging it, which is a really nice feature. The keyboard is in good condition, as is the screen and overall build. The charger that came with it is also holding up great. My only complaints are that my mouse occasionally freaks out on me and acts like it's being pulled in two different directions when it's not, but this only lasts for a few seconds and usually passes quite easily. I would recommend getting a good virus protection program on this computer, but that's usually the territory for computer-owning in general. The audio is also strange that the speakers are right at the front at a downward angle, so it isn't as loud as it could be, and it automatically lowers sound in some programs while other programs will be at normal audio levels, which is a bit annoying if you're trying to double-task, but not enough of a con that I wouldn't buy it again. All-around, amazing laptop for gaming and working. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something to run games or that can double-task pretty well with its programs.
Out of the box, the first thing I did was install Windows 10 (as a fresh install from Microsoft). This got rid of the Lenovo bloatware. Computer does what I need. I also installed Microsoft Office Professional (thankfully my work has a Home User Program which allows me to install for $9.99). Here are the pros and cons that I have found after 2 weeks of use.
Pro - Large screen - Quick startup (less than 30 seconds) - Runs a clean Windows 10 (little to no bloat with fresh install) - Processor is plenty for word processing, streaming video, etc - Runs cool.
Cons - BATTERY LIFE (Charge lasts 3 hours or less) on Energy Save Mode [They claim 4 hours, but 2- 3 hrs is what I found] - Key board and track pad are poor quality

Background: I needed a new laptop after my Lenovo Thinkpad kind of fell apart, after around 4 years though so that is understandable. There are many good things about this laptop.There are few bad. Negatives: -The one thing you will notice is the bloat when you first receive it.Reading the reviews, I thought it was all exaggeration but it isn't, it is full of bloat.It took me around 3 hours to get rid of it all and install everything I wanted.Once it is all gone, it runs smooth and fast.The first thing you should install is Malwarebytes though. After running Malwarebytes, it found 94 threats.Run that immediately and get rid of superfish. -The keys stick as well.It is not a big deal while typing, but if you play some games, which I will talk about, it can get irritating.You really have to press hard while typing for it to be accurate. Not the best for people who are comfortable with a more sensitive laptop. -The function keys are on the same keys as the volume, refresh, brightness, etc., keys but I think that is how most laptops do it now.I just wish differently. With all of these, I took off one star as one can be fixed, and two just take getting comfortable with.
Positives: -The price for what you are getting.The bloat really lowers the price on this, which is actually good for someone like me, a part time worker/college student who knows how to remove bloat easily.A8 is great and for this price, you can't beat it. -Casual gaming is great with this laptop.Triple A games will not run on this laptop.On the other hand; Terraria, Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, and a plethora of great indie games run perfectly.No lag at all, nearly a consistent 60 fps, with settings on high in TF2 which is not what I was expecting.It runs games like LoL pretty well and Smite all right.Some lag, unresponsiveness, and a few crashes every once in awhile but not unplayable.As I said before, the keys stick a bit.For example, in TF2, sometimes when I try rocket jumping, I don't jump.You really have to have your hand centered on the space bar and give it a firm push.
The webcam, speakers, track pad, and screen are all decent for this price as well.No negatives or positives for these.
Overall, it is a great laptop for the price.If you are comfortable with removing bloatware and are looking for a nice laptop at a great price, this is it.If you are not comfortable removing bloatware, I would find someone who is to do it for you or find another laptop.It could make your laptop severely slow if not taken care of.
This computer is just what I, a non-gamer, needed.It's light weight, processes quickly for internet surfing and office work.I don't know much about the Lenovo cloud, yet, but am looking forward to giving it a try.For the amount of money spent, this is a bargain.It feels quite plastic, due to the light weight, but this is no problem for me.The only feature that is uncomfortable are the buttons on the mouse pad.They are slightly lower than the pad and that makes me work a little harder to use them.this is an issue that will naturally resolve with a few more days' use.This is an un-technical review, but the model was recommended to me by someone who works all day with the things.

The G50 IdeaPad is an economicallaptop with enough speed to watch steaming movies and play games (though not at ultra setting, more like medium to low). But, it is cheaply made. I kind of expected it, but not to the extent of what I received. Within a month of using it, the screen cracked when I went to close the laptop. I did not use excessive force or anything, but as I was replacing the LCD screen, I really noticed how cheaply made it is. It feels really flimsy. I did call Lenovosupport about the cracked screen, but I was told it was not covered under warranty. Bottom line, I expected a cheap laptop, and boy did I get one. I cannot recommend this product. Wait a little while, save your money, and go with an HP, Sony, or any other higher grade brand.

Cons: The track pad moves on its own and is a little twitchy and non-responsive at times. Terrible webcam resolution. The video resolution is so bad that you can't even have a clear Skype chat without looking blurry. The computer has a plastic body and doesn't feel sturdy at all. Oh and one last time....non-user friendly windows 8...3 letters. O-M-G.
This PC is a 64 bit system (not a 32 bit as some others have mentioned) It can be converted from Windows 8 to Windows 7 with a installation CD. And yes, it must be genuine Microsoft or it won't work.
This laptop is not terrible. That being said it's very slow compared to my last laptop which I was upgrading from. I have had an issue with the trackpad since day 1 which happens at least once a day where the trackpad stops working properly and I have to alt+tab several times in a row and for some reason that fixes it temporarily. The battery...sucks. I get maybe 2 hours and that's just surfing the internet and not doing anything very CPU heavy. I expect a new laptop to have a longer battery life but this one has not met my expectations since it arrived from Amazon.
Overall this isn't a great laptop. I am struggling to find things to say that are positive other than...it's a computer. I have had MUCH better experiences with HP, Dell and Acer laptops. I had heard such great things about Lenovo but I will not be buying another computer from them.
I have been disappointed in this laptop. The Touchpad does not correspond to my touch. I find myself zoomed out at 500% or on an alternate screen. This could be understandable if I was a newbie to touchpads in general but this is not my first laptop. Windows 8.1 is not what I expected. Iwas informed it was a big improvement over Windows 8. I felt I downgraded from Windows 7. I use my laptop for business purposes so when the zoom gets out of hand or does not respond when I move my fingers it is disgruntling. Additionally, i don't like the floating margins from on the edges. I have gotten rid a lot of pre-intalled apps that are not relevant to my tastes or lifestyle. I will not purchase a Lenovo again. Had I not seen so many in use at schools I work in I wouldn't have given them a second glance. I would have packaged it back up and sent it back but had to hire a computer tech to get rid of the virus I found when I initially plugged in the laptop.
Middling build quality, screen, and battery life. This isn't quite a case of you get what you paid for - there are other machines in a similar price bracket that are better than this. Processor is fine and so is storage and memory.
I like my new laptop but I feel that its performance is not so fast despite having a CORE i5 processor because my old levovo sl400 laptop which has an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor at 2.26 GHz and 3MB Cache L2. Thanks and I still recommend the seller.
Haven't played around with it to much still nursing my old laptop.Not thrilled with the windows 8, maybe it will just take getting used to it.So far I like it about as much as windows Vista, which was not at all! I replaced the HDD with a 240GB SSD ($80) i did not try windows, nor do i care to, i would never trust a OS installed by lenovo nor would i connect it to the Internet F2(Fn + volume down) is used to access the bios, there is no option to change the time delay for this you can either remove the windows hdd or from windows press the windows key + C and click settings then search for uefi there is also a tiny button next to the power plug, it is a power button that goes directly to the bios boot menu when used to turn the unit on

sometimes it feels a little slow to me but i'm used to my desktop's i5-4690k + overclocked GTX 650 TI boost i don't used a laptop for gaming, they are just tools for light duty work
like most vendors lenovo uses a white list to stop you from upgrading the wifi card, the only intel card on that list is the 3160NGW, i do not know if you have to use a lenovo branded one or not
I'll never again buy another Lenovo laptop. The first one had to be sent back because I kept getting the blue screen telling me that the hard drive wasn't connected. (This started the DAY I got it.See photo.) Fortunately, it didn't happen EVERY time, so I was able to back up all my work before exchanging it for another one. (To be sure, the exchange was relatively painless, and I was able to get the replacement before I returned the defective one.)
I've had this one for a few months, and, quite frankly, I hate it. It is SLOW. Really slow. Just opening Firefox takes at least a minute. Opening any program because a laborious task. God forbid if I have more than one program running at once. And the laptop is LOADED with crappy, Lenovo software that clogs the system down drastically.
Also, the HDMI port isn't connected sturdily, and if I connect anything via the HDMI port it is a crap-shoot whether it will actually connect. (I've used multiple HDMI cords and televisions. The problem, without a doubt, is the laptop.) More often than not, I just get a flickering green screen on the TV.
The left touchpad button has broken. I have to make certain I click on the button toward the far left, otherwise it does nothing. Try using a laptop with a broken left touchpad button. You can't.
Moreover, the wireless modem is garbage. I frequently have to restart my computer because my online access as stopped (the laptop just tells me "limited access," even though my Time Warner high speed wireless router is mere feet away, and even though my iPhone and PS3 still can connect. Magically, I restart the laptop, and I'm connected again.
Basically, this laptop is a piece of junk. I use this laptop for work, and am the only one who uses it. It's just really bad. Buy another make.

Overall, a good laptop for the price. Worked right out of the box. The only things I've noticed are the ' key and the N keys get a little weird on me sometimes. It takes a lot of pressure to get the ' key to work, and sometimes hitting the N key will give me multiple N's in a row. Maybe I got a wacky keyboard? Wouldn't be such a big deal, except that I am a transcriptionist and typing speed is incredibly helpful. An easy laptop to set up and Windows 8.1 is incredibly similar to Windows 8, so not a big deal there. A good laptop for the money.
I havvr to press hard on the keyboard, slows down my typing. Plus some keys need to be keyed just in the center; a real pain. Now my monitor shuts down after 10 seconds; adjuste the settings in the control panel to 20 min but it does not work; tried this several times. The touch pad is very touchy; all of a sudden I will have very large print and then when I try to adjust it the print/pics goes way down so I cannot read it; very tricky to get the screen to stay the same size. A brief instruction sheet was included that was too general in nature. No I would not recommend this model to someone!

I love it! I love Lenovo tech support, they answer any stupid question i pose to them, and never let me feel stupid. The only thing I wish it had is a lighted keyboard, but that's my mistake. I didn't realize how much I would appreciate one.
This is a workhorse for me, I don't game on it. I bounce from browser to browser, all of which might have seven or so pages open on them, with no difficulty.
I am contemplating a larger hard drive for Photoshop, but otherwise, it's a dream
Soon after getting this, the keyboard is not working properly and I can no longer return it. I like itotherwise, as long as I don't have to type anything,but now I have to figure out out to replace a keyboard on a pretty new computer. Makes me wonder if thiswas really a new computer or if it was a "refurbished" computer being sold as new.
