This computer is really great. Its so much smaller than you think it would be and makes little to no noise. Did a performance test to see benchmarks for speed and is surprisingly fast. With size comes some sacrifices and compromises.
First, there is no DVD/BD drive.Lenovo does sell a mount with the ad on DVD slim but you have to get it from their website and that computer will not be in possession for 3 weeks and $75 extra.Worth buying a $30 external if you really need it.
Second, ports or lack thereof. The description says it has 6 USB ports with 2 of them being USB 3.0.This has 5 USB ports and 2 are USB 3.0 and 2 USB will be occupied by your mouse and keyboard. This will leave you with 3 ports which coulld be quickly used by your external DVD drive, external HD, USB thumb drive or printer.Would strongly suggest if you need more ports to buy a port extender. The sound port is also limited to single channel speakers and port is in the front. No sound ports on the back if you want your computer to be very sleek in the front.Again, Lenovo does make an additional port hub that can be mounted on it but you have to purchase from Lenovo for it.
Third compromise is that buttons can be a little stiff and is better for computer to be anchored or laying horizontal.Does come with a vertical stand but have to hold the tower to press the pwr button or it pushes backwards or falls over.
Fourth is the Lenovo bloatware that comes with it.I don’t really like much of the manufacturer software that scans the computer. Its often a pain to have to have their pop up windows reminding you to register and activate your cloud drive that you won’t use or switch from the one you already use.Your computer also comes with no product Key for your OS so doing a clean format may be more difficult than you’d like with no DVD drive. The malware security is Norton which I have never liked and would recommend using something else and getting rid of it on your system.Keep in mind this was meant for buisness use and a light user that wants something small that will let them watch kitten videos and download malware on the machine.
Overall, I am happy with the M73 tiny. This is a solid machine made for those that do not want a laptop but do not want a heavy tower to lug around. This is a good buy for those that live alone and can’t lift heavy things or recovering from joint fractures.Tower can mount on the back of a monitor with the purchase of the mount, or sit quietly by the monitor.ThinkCentre has super solid build quality and will get long life out of the hardware provided you do throw it around or corrupt it with poor internet decisions.
Nice and snappy M73 I3-4130T # 10AY001RUS client/server, I didn’t keep the spin HDD, didn’t even start the machine until I changed to a Samsung EVO 840 250g/SSD that I had available. Boots in less than 6 seconds using the Win7 Pro already pre-installed on the spin drive (copied from spin drive to SSD).
I’m running VMware with 2003 server 24/7 with no issues. The local disk running HS2 (HomeSeer) along with DNS server with no issues so far. Also running software for a security system recording video to an external spin drive. I also use VNC for remote into both the local and VM.
So far this unit runs quiet and cool now mounted out of sight with no need for a keyboard or mouse. Love the size of this unit and the ease to remove it from the Visa mount for maintenance and upgrades such as the memory, which I have not done yet, but will when I get another for a basic client. Yes I plan on buying another one! I currently have no need for a big tower as I once had, so downsizing and keeping the power and heat down has been achieved this system, which for now I approve as I like the quality of the materials used for the build of this unit. I would recommend to a friend.
There are several sellers here on Amazon, this one came from Fatech International and was fulfilled by Amazon. As normal the shipping was as expected and packed well with an outer box then with the retail box of this unit inside.
Update- I for got to mentioned that I normally build my own systems, but in this case I couldn’t come up with anything that I really liked in mirco ATX or ITX platform, after a few weeks of comparing systems and looking over reviews I settled on this system. Lenovo has come a long way in a very short period of time. They must be somewhat good for one my company has a bout 100k employees and probably about 60k clients and 5 data centers and this brand is being used to replace older HP clients., but at the 4 or 5 data centers still using HP.
Update2 Mar-2015 – I ended up buying another one from WhiteRock here on Amazon, couldn’t wait. I like the other one so much for what I intend to use them for that I wanted another one for a desktop client. Got another mount and another SSD drive to install in this system. So far, even know it’s only been a week, I’m very pleased with these systems.
Update3 Dec-2015 – Still love’n these system, not issues running WIN7 pro and VM with 2003 server. I also, totally recommend the bracket, which should also work with any VESA compatible devices… even know I didn’t mount mine as a VESA requirement, rather behind a office hutch system (attached picture, not the best picture) that is only part of the bigger set of office furniture, which is in storage at the moment. Mine two units are side by side, one runs as desktop, the other as a server that I remote into using VNC. Great systems so far!
