As of 2017, this computer is the worst thing ever. For a regular user, the touchscreen no longer works and is visibly damaged, the fan spins exclusively at 11000rpm making the entire device rattle and vibrate, as well as, ironically, overheating. I've cleaned it, changed the thermal paste, done maintenance to it, but to no avail. Also, 2 keys pop out easily. The computer gives blue screen issues all the time, NFC stopped working, the graphics card can't do much before it starts to flash the screen.
Would I suggest this? Definitely not. The aging was terrible and right now I have to find a replacement fan or another computer. Never again with a VAIO.
I'm loving this computer. It is extremely light, fast, portable and easy to use.
The Core i5-4200U is more than suitable for this computer, especially since it barely uses any battery. My autonomy is, with the battey locked at 80% max capacity, around 5 and a half hours of word processing. The SSD is small, but I have 65GB free after I passed my pictures and documents, granted the music was left outside on an eHDD.
I'm not having many WiFi issues. Mostly shorter range than usual, but works fine. I do have an issue where I can't update the driver to the latest, since I'm running Windows 8.1 and the driver is for Windows 8. Sony has been unable to help me other than "rollback to windows 8 and update, the reupgrade to 8.1".
Would I suggest this? Definitely. Great device, very light, beautiful, very portable, very fast, very attractive, and for my needs, very suitable.
Out of the box, this thing worked well and after 3 days, the battery died completely. Confidence shaken in the Sony, I ordered a similarly equipped, $50 more -- Same processor -- 8 GB instead of 4 GB memory, Acer S7.Aside from the fact the battery on the Acer hasn't failed after weeks, the computer is noticeably more responsive and feels much more solid. The Sony is very lite, but it also flexes and feels breakable. I love Sony products and wanted to like it, but the Acer is a better computer, IMHO.
The Vaio Pro 13 requires a bios update, a wifi update (preferably from Intel for the Intel N 7260 wifi module), device updates from Sony--all before updating to Windows 8.1.Once one accomplishes these tasks, the Sony is quick, stable and a delight to use.The screen is excellent, the keyboard responsive and the track- pad behaves very well with Windows 8.1. The Pro 13 is also one of the lightest Ultrabooks available. I suspect that a number of users returned their Vaio Pro 13s when frustrated with issues such as a wi-fi that dropped connections. But if you do all the updates, purchasing a discounted "return" will be a bargain.

Me and this laptop have had our ups and downs but usually the ups out number the downs. Usually, this device is awesome. Great battery life (I take it to work and with intermittent use it lasts all day ~7.5 hrs easy). I had wifi issues for quite sometime but I think those have been resolved. I also had screen locking and screen brightness issues but those have been totally taken care of thanks to help from the web. Overall I recommend the product. Its crazy light, I get comments on that all the time, and super thin. Other people worry about breaking it when they use it but I find it to be quite sturdy. Also, the fan is loud, but you get used to it.
I was scared buying this ultrabook after reading few bad reviews here. So far I had zero problems, WIFI is as good as any other device I have, it does get a little hot but nothing to worry about, the fan is noisy but only when very CPU activity is present. I love its weight, super fast boot time and overall performance. The I5 version is fast enough for me.

Great Sony Vaio Pro SVP. Very fast laptop, excellent size because keyboard is easy to use with my big fingers (had problems W/ Mini Laptops), screen is just big enough to watch movies, and you can carry it on without having to struggle as i did with my Dell XPS 17". Keyboard lights up which makes it easier to type @ night. Strong aluminium case. Touchscreen works great.-
I bought this Sony Vaio in order to do work at the internship I have. Overall I really liked the computer features, for daily tasks it is very speedy and the fan noise isn't very loud (if not heavily used). I ordered the product from TECH GROUP LATIN AMERICA, they were fanatic people. I needed this computer asap, and they went out of their way to have it delivered in three days, despite me picking the normal shipping rate. If your looking to purchase this computer, you should definitely buy it from them, you won't be disappointed in either!
I really like this laptop and would totally recommend it to anyone who values a light yet powerful portable notebook, but after only 4 months it will not run from the battery alone, and will only turn on when the machine is plugged in, completely negating any value as a portable device. I visited various forums and this is not an isolated incident. I have also tried updating the BIOS and resetting the battery, to no avail. For what I paid I expected much higher quality from SONY. Buyer beware!
Get more options at your fingertips with this Sony VAIO convertible laptop. The magnetic, detachable keyboard allows you to use your device in tablet or PC mode, and a high-definition touch screen lets you easily browse the Web, watch videos and flip through photos on a stunning display.
Whether it is open or closed, you will find yourself wanting to feel this VAIO E Series laptop. With a textured, diamond-shaped pattern embossed on the lid and palm rest, this PC is artfully crafted to be pleasing to the eyes and to the touch without leaving any fingerprint smudges.

I used this machine with Windows 7 installed, then installed the Linux Mint version 17 64-bit operating system. It was okay in Windows, and I have noticed a marginal increase in performance with the Linux Mint operating system. I plan on installing the 32-bit version of Ubuntu Linux on this machine to see if there is any noticeable performance difference from my experience with Linux Mint.
What I like about this laptop is that Sony has designed a keyboard for this 15.5 inch laptop that has a built-in numeric keypad. The cool thing is that the keyboard is a joy to type on and the numeric keypad is a regular sized keypad, and not a small narrow sized one that you see on competing laptops. This laptop does great for common sense simple applications, such as web surfing, email, and the other applications that do not make use of videos or games. It's not a powerhouse gaming laptop by any stretch of the imagination.
If only Sony can make a similar laptop with this price point and with a higher end processor, that would be an excellent combination and also a best buy for the consumer, but in this case, I will take what I can get.

I upgraded to this computer from a Dell. I absolutely LOVE this thing!!! The screen width is amazing and it's so clear and crisp. The size of the keyboard and the amount of space between the keys makes typing a breeze, and I absolutely love the number pad. The mouse pad itself isn't as sensitive as I'm used to but the texture is really nice, it's going to take a lil getting used to on my part. The set up was extremely easy just a few "next" buttons and it was done, my husband could have done it which is saying something lol. The different things you can do with personalization is fantastic! I love being able to personalize anything I have and this computer just has so many options including pre installed themes that you can edit or make your own. The speed is unbelievable, it's just been smooth sailing ever since I turned it on. The shipping was extremly fast, as always. Maybe I love it so much because it's such a nice extreme upgrade from my Dell, either way I couldn't be happier with it, especially for the price I paid. I know some other customers were able to get it even cheaper then I did, I would consider that an absolute steal! All in all, if you want a nice sleek looking laptop thats easy to use and fast, this is it!

This is my second Sony Vaio laptop.I also have a Sony Vaio All-in-one desktop. They are both solid computers for what I mainly use them for, internet and occasional document creation. The older laptop had poor speaker volume and about two years into usage, the keyboard started malfunctioning. As with most laptops, the battery died about 1.5 years into usage.Purchased a non-Sony battery on-line to save money. That one died in about 4 months and I could only used the laptop when plugged-in.This new laptop is only one month old and functions well. The speaker volume issue seems to have been corrected.Only time will tell about the keyboard and battery life.Would've given this laptop 5 stars if it were not for the over-use of plastic.Everything is made of a cheap plastic to save money and it gives the laptop a flimsy feel compared to other laptops I've used.
This is by the far the best purchase I've ever made online. I will definitely look on Amazon.com first before anywhere else for future purchases. Not only did I save about $150 from the closest competitor but it also shipped in 2 days when I only paid for standard shipping which normally takes 5-10 business days. The laptop was brand new and better than the description. I am most pleased with this purchase.
I purchased this Sony Vaio to replace the Atinquated piece of hardware the resembles a laptop that is slower than molasses,(pentIII CPU) enough said about the dinosaur, when I got my new laptop I couldn't be happier with the speed of shipping and the ease of setting it up for the first time... my brother said he had many problems with his Vaio and wouldn't recommend buying one, but I had already bought it when he found out I did, let's just hope he just got the ONLY lemon in the bunch, as for now I LOVE THIS LAPTOP. I does everything I want a computer to do and then some like shuffeling music or picture albums with the swipe of your hand motion, (works with the camera), watching hd movies, playing my music while I work or surf the web, etc.... very good buy for the price I paid $390.00...hope this helps you decide, so far I would recomend buying this laptop....

Web cam, is great..DVD works great...everything is wonderfully solid with this laptop. Oh, did I say I would recommend this to a friend????
Great laptop!!!!Very nice features and nice to have 10-key number pad built in.Although I had some minor issues with the first one, Amazon's return/replacement policy and features are the BEST!!!It was super easy to replace and before sending back first one, Amazon already sent shipping notification on the replacement.Within a couple of days, I received replacement.I couldn't be happier!Amazon doesn't mess around.....I absolutely LOVE Amazon!!!!

I think I got a Lennovo lemon. They were horrible about wanting me to pay fees to get the warranty.so Amazon was awesome about letting me return it.No problems at allwith Sony. The only recommendation I would have is the battery life.I haven't timed it, but it's probably 2-3 hours.I use it with it plugged in alot, so that I don't have to worry about it later.

I bought this older model because I did not want Windows 8. (I tried it on another PC, and didn't care for it.)
The Sony is attractive, fast, and easy to set up. I especially like the fact that Sony makes it easy (through the Control Panel) to remove any pre-installed software you don't want.
Btw, I discovered this through my one and only call to Sony for support, which I did via a chat session on their website. The rep was knowledgeable, courteous, and fast -- so, that experience alone earns an extra star, in my book.
I bought this to replace an HP dm1z. The keyboard is better on the Sony, and the function keys make more sense. Speed is roughly the same between the two. The HP has a bit better battery life, I think, but the Sony weighs a little less.
And, I had *lousy* experience with HP support -- like, it was non-existent. That's the main reason I gave up on that laptop.
First of all, it's light and small. It's just large enough to be comfortable to type on.
I'm a big fan of AMD, a company local to me where several of friends work, but I admit their chips are not at quite at level Intel's are for raw performance. This is not the most powerful laptop, but it is snappy for web surfing and decodes h.264 basically instantly. For Netflix, web surfing, document editing, and other every day uses, this laptop is up to the task.
For games, I found the framerates surprisingly pretty good for Dead Space, but it struggled with La Noire.Skyrim on medium settings was playable.
Battery life is excellent. It's been on for five hours now.
Keyboards are a matter of personal taste.I prefer the old Thinkpad keyboards, but this island style is more attractive and has a nice feel.I can type around 80% as fast on this laptop as I can on my desktop.
There isn't too much bloatware installed... Sony is better about this than most, but I removed the Office trial, Kapersky, and Windows "Essentials".It didn't make much difference in performance.
The screen is small but gorgeous; the fit and finish is as good as any laptop I've ever had.I glanced at how to disassemble it and it plainly would be an enormous pain, like most laptops these days.
There is no optical drive. No blu ray, no DVD, no CD.If you have access to a computer with such a drive, you can easily make isos and mount them for use on this computer, but I download everything these days.I think a laptop is better without the extra parts.
I strongly advise replacing the hard drive in this laptop with an SSD.The boot times and program loading with this setup are incredibly fast. This makes a bigger difference to most users than a more powerful processor would.
This is an outstanding laptop at a reasonable price.I paired it with
I don't really need a laptop much. Most everything I do can be done with an Internet Appliance, and I have two:a Google Tablet and a Chromebook. But when I need to process something on the road - like photos in Photoshop or video in Premiere, this is a great little machine.Unfortunately, I've had to replace the hard drive and keyboard, but they were relatively inexpensive and easy to install with a little help from YouTube.

Nice, but original battery went bad so quick and the hard disk fail in 2 years. I was lucky that a friend of mine works on computers and it coast me only $80 for a new hard drive-SSD
I like the portability of this PC and a great screen resolution butthe battery don't last as I expect( only in standby: can stay on for about 24 hours) The worst problem I have with it is the insensitivity of the mouse pad: I rather using a optional mini mouseto avoid this problem. I s a little bit sluggish but I guess is normal for the size of the laptop despite it brag of 1.7 gigahertz of speed. Overall is OK for me since I use it only when I'm out in school. I decided sacrifice a little bit of performance for portability since it is very light.

I gotta say I do love sony Vaio its not my first one and I am happy with this one, However the mouse might be an issue its not as accurate as others and notebook may be little slow but since its a 400 dollards Sony laptop I would say its ok for the price since this is only a notebook. With that been said if you want a laptop for gaming a lot of space and a really fast proccesor this is not the one for you but if you just want a notebook to check your email social sites news use netflix and read books its just great and I do recommend it!

I am so disappointed. This was the first time I had purchased a computer from Amazon and it has been a nightmare. Took the computer out, tried to turn it on and then called Tech support. Tech support informed us that it was broken but that any warranty or replacement would have to come from Amazon. I called Amazon and was told that the item was no longer available and that it would take 3-5 days to receive a replacement. We were sent a pick up order and delivered the computer to UPS for the return. I call today and am told that the replacement won't ever be available, BUT there is an updated unit for only $70 more. So buy the new one and we will issue a refund for the first one when we get around to it. I'm just plain disgusted. I have dealt with Amazon for many years and never had this experience. That is why I chose to buy a computer for my university student daughter. The old saying: "BUYER BEWARE" is apropro!

I loved this computer. After doing lots of research looking for a computer to suit my needs I settled for the Sony Vaio E series. The keyboard is phenomenal - Beautiful backlighting (a novelty to me), no keyboard flex (great because I type frequently and quickly), and the keys themselves were awesome. The screen was very bright - An all around very attractive computer. Startup time was also great... UNTIL: Within 24 hours of having this computer I started noticing glitches within the mousepad. Very frustrating. Also, after stalling Windows 8 "updates" my computer completely crashed. I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support while my brand new PC had to completely reset. Needless to say it was a nightmare. It just froze on the start screen and wouldn't work even after restarting!
Finally, though I realize this is not Sony's fault -- My initial excitement was detracted by the fact that I soon noticed there was a small, but undoubtedly worsening crack in the plastic material surrounding the black trim of the computer. There were actually some wires exposed. Also, upon arrival the keyboard was popped out of place - While this is insignificant because ultimately the keyboard was fine, it is extremely frustrating that Amazon ships their products in these states.
Ultimately, I wish Sony should have kept their Windows 7 E series around a little longer.. Definitely avoid.

I had really high hopes for this laptop.I was particularly interested in the Sony VAIO E Series for its price point, the build and design, it has good specs, and I loved the idea of having a backlit keyboard as this feature is more in high end laptops and was getting out of my budget.I looked up numerous YouTube videos and models for a solid week or so and came down to this particular one for the price, color, and screen size.
First impressions were good. I loved the packaging and box, and upon taking the laptop out, the design is absolutely gorgeous. It's very sleek and sharp.
The problems then started coming as I was setting the laptop up; first thing I noticed right out of the gates.
- A whole section of my backlit keyboard was defective. I even took it into a dark room and tested it constantly and fiddled through the settings just to make sure I didn't have a incorrect setting enabled or something needed to be enabled.
- The laptop was uneven on my desk. You could push down on one side and the laptop would slightly wobble. I tested this on several desks and counters around the house.
- The hard drive constantly made a scanning noise, even when the laptop was idle, I double and TRIPLE checked processes running in the background, but for some reason, the laptop began to be really noisy and there was nothing I could do to subdue the noise coming from the HD.
- The touchpad is an absolute nightmare to use. Scrolling is choppy, the cursor skips everywhere on the screen when typing.
I've owned many laptops ranging from HP, Toshiba, Apple, Dell. This was my first Sony VAIO product and I had high hopes as Sony is always known for their quality VAIO line.I was extremely taken back and disappointed on this model. I had high hopes and REALLY wanted to like it as its the best looking laptop around this price point.
I don't know if I got a lemon, but based on these models posted on Amazon, the reviews are very scattered from 1 star to 5 star ratings. It seems that the quality control and testing maybe wasn't very thorough.I will be returning this and maybe expanding my budget a bit to get something with more quality control, because this laptop needs some serious work.
This unit is a capable laptop and had had no electrical problems. BUT the housing feels cheap and paper thin. Seams pop loose and get caught on clothing or backpack. The glossy screen is already scratched by the keys after one week in a backpack. The black finish shows every single fingerprint so you'll feel like it needs washing every time you pick it up. When I bought a Sony I figured I was getting a top tier product and am disappointed.I normally keep laptops for years, but this one probably won't make it.
By our suggestions above, we hope that you can found Sony Vaio Convertible Laptop 13 Inch for you. Please don't forget to share your experience by comment in this post. Thank you!
