I have owned an ASUS Republic of Gaming laptop for years, which ran World of Warcraft solidly without melting down as the Vaio and Toshiba Q-series laptops did before it. So I have had a top-notch experience with the brand of ASUS. So after my daughter kept her previous low-end laptop for 2 years without breaking it or spilling anything on it, and after its charging port died, I found this steal of a deal.
Pros: An amazing number of CPUs for its price (4 processor +6 GPUs, as another reviewer has pointed out) The most memory (8GB) of the laptops in its price bracket 1TB 5400RPM drive - not the fastest but an enormous amount of space As mentioned in previous pros, PRICE - this one is a steal at the price I paid. No other laptops had these features for this price.
Con: Only one I can think of - monitor resolution (1366 x whatever) - but I don't think my daughter cares. There are higher resolution screens in this price bracket, but those come with serious tradeoffs, usually in the form of processor speed and memory, which to my mind are the most crucial pieces of hardware in a computer.
To Sum Up: Buy this! We have had this laptop for a few weeks and it has met every high expectation I have had for it. My daughter does use it to video call, and she comes down after her video calls elated with its performance and detailing how it is so much better than her prior laptop. Unfortunately this machine has other elements in play that snuffs the specs, because someone wants to make a profit! Now because i TRUSTED the ad and the seller, the seller tells me it is AMAZONS fault for falesly advertising, even though they gladly accepted my payment without a hitch. Reason, the picture on the ad clearly shows the optical drive (bluray), what i got is an optical drive (multi-drive). Now, i researched this and there was not sufficent informatiom even from the manf. However there are two latops with similar model numbers, but one is for retail and the other is for online. They both have seperate pages and both have different pictures of the laptop. There is some minor differences, but one of them i saw was this model had bluray optical drive. Otherwise i would habe gone with the other one with windows 10 preloaded(not like this one with windows 8) and the power plugin on the left side, away from the optical drive, unlike the one i have with the power cord next to the optical drive(a real pain at times). The laptop specs are good, but the headache and stress added on top of it, why? Just so everyone can make a damn profit? Did you people forget the main point? Its our money to spend, not how you can spend it for us! Keyword here being, trust! How can trust the sellers, let alone amazon i am going to get what is advetised. I have complained & pleades amazon to allow buyers control of the sellers false advertising, but unfortunately they stick a how bunch of sellers under that same, so the attitude is that they cannot because it will affect the sellers... Please read into what i just wrote now, amazon rather take our money, consume our time & then give it back. Its funny how they mark major profits, but never tell about the losses. DO NOT BUY FROM SELLER, "E&M EXPRESS". Contacted them about it, they respond by stating its amazons fault and thats it. They walk away taking my money while i am stuck with something i didnt pay 100% for! My one star is for the reason of the hassle & stress i was given for the purchase of this laptop. Upgrade for windows 8 to 10 was a hassle. In order to upgrade you are forced to sign in using a microsoft email account. With no option of bypassing. Researched online and found how. Unlike corporations that rely on profit, dont dictate the practice of common sense. Apparently you have to sign in, to bypass. If that sentence hurt your head, now you understand what i have been going through. Took me over 2hrs to upgrade this so-called fast laptop. I email asus about this, on how thirdparty software is making your laptop slow!

So far so good. I purchased it primarily because I edit (and slideshow) HD video and my old machine could not keep up. This one handles the job with ease. I currently have it set up more like a PC with a wireless keyboard/mouse and a 23" monitor and have not had it 'on-the-road' yet so cannot comment on battery life or ease of portability. I upgraded to Win 10 upon arrival without a problem. It appears to 'play well' with the new OS. The DVD burner is reasonably fast and operated without a hitch. One disappointment is that in the full machine specifications it refers to Bluetooth but does not include it so if you use Bluetooth you must purchase the USB dongle and tie up one of your ports. I consider it a good value for the processing power, memory and storage it offers. It looks and feels like a Laptop should so I do recommend it.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, I have to reduce this review from 5 to 2 stars. Originally, I was very impressed with the computer, it's ability to run high graphics, and the price tag of the unit.
Unfortunately, approximately 2 months after receiving the computer, I experienced some hardware issues with the processing unit when trying to run gaming graphics.It didn't appear to be overheating, the configurations looked correct. We checked different gaming sites, reduced graphics quality, etc. Nothing above a 16-bit game would run. When even a factory data reset didn't work, we spoke with Asus Customer Support, and sent it back under warranty.
I was slightly annoyed that we had to pay shipping costs for their device failure, but I was willing to deal with it.However, it has been a couple of weeks now since the package was sent, we have confirmed delivery with the shipping company, and we have received no follow up whatsoever from Asus since that time.I actually ended up buying a new computer because it was taking so long to get a replacement issued. At this point, I'm just hoping I'm not out the $550 I paid for this device.
Overall, I'm disappointed. The machine itself was wonderful before the issues with the processor. Based on conversations with the support team, it seems my issue is an anomaly. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this computer to anyone anymore, because we have no idea what caused the problem, and Asus hasn't been particularly good at communicating with me what is happening on their end.
The longer i use this laptop the more dissatisfied i am with it! ive had cheaper laptops that worked better. i thought id keep it and give it a good chance before returning it but now im past my return date so the most i can do is give it a bad review. i would rescind my review if they let me return it.
